Dell hasn’t changed the design of the XPS 13 in a couple of years, but the aesthetics of this model has always been excellent. Dell XPS 13 9360 laptop belongs to high-end laptop line for those who like thin, light fashion but still strong enough performance. The chassis is made of carbon fiber with a meticulously machined aluminum finish for reliable durability.
Naturally, with such a customer segment, Dell will have to compete with many competitors. In this article, I will compare the XPS 13 9360 with competitors from Lenovo, Asus, HP … Is the Dell XPS 13 9360 a laptop worth to expect? Read on to the review below to find the answer.

Design on Dell XPS 13 9360 in particular and on Dell XPS in general has created a design language that can be said very simply but really enter the user’s heart when it creates an attractive elegance. The chassis is made of carbon fiber with an aluminum finish coated with a meticulously machined finish. There are 2 color versions can choose from silver or rose gold.
The hinge is sturdy, allowing the screen to open up to a wide angle. The inside of the palm rest is covered with carbon fingerprints, for a smooth and comfortable hand feeling.
The machine has a very solid structure, pressing the screen part to feel very solid, there is no rickety phenomenon. Even when you try to twist it, the machine will not distort, does not emit any abnormal sounds.
In terms of weight, this machine is quite light with a weight of only 1,228 kg and dimensions of 15 x 304 x 201 mm. Compared to the competition, Dell is clearly lighter than the Acer Aspire S 13 (1.3kg) and on par with the HP Specter 13.
Dell XPS 13 9360 also provides quite a full range of ports with 2 USB 3.0 ports, 1 SD card reader, 1 3.5mm jack for audio and micrro combined, 1 USB type-C port supports Thunderbolt 3. People Users can also charge the laptop via USB type-C port with a dedicated AC adapter.
Webcam quality has not been improved and the resolution is only 1280 × 720 pixels, the webcam is still placed under the screen. The resulting image is not very good, quality is only enough for basic video chats especially in low light conditions. Colors look pretty real, but the camera has problems with edges and surface texture, they look smudged.
V. Ability to maintain, upgrade
The bottom cover is fixed to the chassis by eight Torx T4 screws. You can screw it off quite easily and remove the bottom cover, but you should be careful not to damage the small plastic hooks. I recommend using a sharp object to remove the bottom lid.
After removing the bottom cover you can access the heatsink fan, the battery as well as the M.2 SSD can be replaced. There is no problem with replacing SSD and WLAN. You can also easily clean the fans and cooling system.
VI. Input devices
The keyboard on the Dell XPS 13 9360, although not equipped with the same mechanical keyboard as on the Razer Blade Pro, but it is reasonably designed. Reasonable key distance with 1.2mm key travel brings good bounce, accurate response, the keypad certainly does not cause flex and gives a feeling of typing quite confidently. The keyboard is also equipped with backlit backlight for easier operations in dark environments.
The XPS 13 trackpad is a Precision Touchpad with a glass-covered surface. Although the size is not too large, the trackpad offers a very good experience, precise multi-point manipulation. Good click response, and the sound when the mouse is pressed can be heard.
3. Touch screen
Machine uses QHD + touch screen, 13.3 inchs. It supports recognition up to 10 fingers. During use, I found that the touch screen of the XPS 13 had a pretty good response speed, smooth touch, and easy finger surfing. However, due to the glossy screen surface, it is susceptible to fingerprints and must be cleaned frequently.
1. Main specifications
- IPS technology
- Size: 13.3 inch
- Resolution: 1920 x 1080 pixels
- Maximum brightness: 351.2 cd / m², average: 325 cd / m². Brightness distribution ratio: 89%
- Contrast Ratio: 1801: 1. Black value: 0.195 cd / m²
- ΔE color: 7.4
- Percent of Color Space: 73.31% sRGB and 50.48% AdobeRGB
2. Ability to see outdoors, viewing angles
Outdoor visibility is quite good despite a drop in brightness compared to the FHD model from 2015. Working with the laptop in the shade is no problem and even on overcast days we can continue to work. job. If you use it in direct sunlight or where there are many reflective objects, you will find that the screen of the device is very shiny. It is highly reflective and cannot work under such conditions.
Thanks to the use of an IPS panel, viewing angles are as good as expected. There is only slight loss of brightness when viewed at very inclined angles. Colors are almost unchanged even at very tilted viewing angles.
1. CPU performance
At the time of writing, the XPS 13 is available with three different Kaby Lake processors: Core i3-7100U, i5-7200U, and i7-7500U. The i3 model has 4 GB of RAM and a 128 GB SSD, while the version with an i5 processor can be upgraded to 8 GB LPDDR3 RAM and a 256 GB SSD. Both i5 as well as i7 can be equipped with QHD + display. The highest level of RAM (16 GB) and the largest hard drive (SSD 1 TB) are reserved for the i7 model.
The CPU performance of the Dell XPS 13 9360 is on par with its class competitors, second only to the Razer Blade Stealth.
2. Overall performance of the system
I use PCMark benchmark tests to rank overall system performance. The XPS 13 9360 performs very well and is generally on par with the HP Specter 13 using the i7-6500U. Only the Lenovo IdeaPad 710S-13ISK with a dual-core Intel Core i7-6560U and Intel Iris 540 integrated graphics outperforms about 10% depending on the test selected.
During my time using the machine, I hardly experienced any performance crashes or significant lag.
3. GPU performance
The integrated Intel HD 620 in the 9360 outperformed the HD 520 in the HP Specter 13 by only about 5% according to the 3DMark 13 and 3DMark 11 benchmark tests. Intel Iris 540 in the Lenovo IdeaPad 710S-13ISK and XPS 13 9350 QHD + Core The i7-6560U is noticeably faster and outperforms the HD 620 by about 20-40%. The XPS 13 QHD + version with an i7 CPU also uses the HD 620, which doesn’t really deliver better GPU performance.
4. Hard drive speed
The version used in this review uses a 256GB Toshiba NVMe SSD. Measuring the read and write speed of this hard drive using the CrystalDiskMark software results as shown below:
5. Ability to play games
If you have chosen to buy a Dell XPS, then you are not using it to play games. Due to its built-in GPU, it is only suitable for light games. If you want to use it to play graphics-heavy games, I don’t think the XPS should be selected.
IX. Noise, temperature
When the machine is in idle mode or while performing moderate tasks like word processing or web browsing, the XPS 13 makes no noticeable noise out. Even at maximum load, the system is not too noisy, although the fans can cause discomfort after a period of use. However, in general, the XPS 13 is one of the laptops with the least noise-making fan system. The HP Specter 13 has a clear disadvantage with fans that cause noise in excess of 41 dB under heavy load.
When running at load for a short time (copying files) the noise generated by the radiator fan is about 30 dB. The maximum measured noise was about 38.3 dB. Overall, at this noise level, people who are “extremely” sensitive to noise may find it annoying. For the majority of people, the noise generated by the Dell XPS 13 9360 is not noticeable.
When inactive, the average surface temperature of the machine is about 25-26 degrees Celsius. When running under heavy load, the maximum temperature measured up to 49.2 degrees C in some areas. With this temperature, you can completely put the device on your lap to work without feeling uncomfortable due to the heat that the machine radiates. The exhaust from the fan runs along the width of the laptop in that location, so be careful not to cover the place with any obstructions, which can raise both internal and surface temperatures.
The temperature chart of the machine under maximum load:
The speaker is not too loud, the sound is not distorted even at maximum volume. As expected, the sound quality was not impressive because the bass was lacking, but on the other hand the sound of the rest was quite balanced. Machine built-in software Waves MaxxAudio Pro helps balance and customize the sound. Users can customize the sound as they like through this application.
Speakerphone volume is loud enough to fill a moderate room. It is more suitable for listening to human voices than for enjoying music
XI. Battery life
The XPS 13 9360 is equipped with a 60 Wh lithium-polymer battery with CABA technology, so the battery life is quite good. Tested at 150 nits of brightness for the ability to surf the web, the results show that the device can last for more than 11 hours. In general, if you use it with basic office tasks, the machine can completely withstand all day.
Above are some shares of Xi Pa Chao about Dell XPS 13 9360 laptop line. Hope to bring but essential information for everyone.
